False Claims of George Soros' Death
Posts with false information, such as screenshots of purported news items claiming "George Soros dead," have appeared. When these stories were examined more closely, it became clear that they frequently came from dubious sources, like the website "World Bulletin," which is notorious for producing content in both English and Turkish that has a propensity for conspiracy theories.
The sole reference used in these articles was "Politics
For All Ireland." An English tweet from the user "Cillian,"
known for its conspiracy theories and anti-globalist viewpoints, was also
included. It's important to remember, though, that none of these sources were
able to offer solid proof to back up the assertion that Soros had died.
An official from the Soros-founded Open Society Foundations
dispelled the claims by stating that Soros is still alive and healthy. It's
important to note that such "death" hoaxes involving well-known
persons are regrettably common in the world of false social media information,
frequently causing serious harm before being disproved.
Throughout his life, George Soros has been the subject of
several untrue allegations and has regularly faced antisemitism, rumors of
conspiracies, and attacks on his person from authoritarian figures like Viktor
Orban and Vladimir Putin. A Soros obituary that was unintentionally published
by Reuters in 2013 reappeared and was reinforced on social media in 2022 by
accounts disseminating false information.
